I am a photojournalist, based in London. Through my photography, I am a visual storyteller, telling a story with my photographs in a way that no other media can. I photograph news stories, as well as weddings and family events.
The early years
My passion for photography stems back many years. In the days of the traditional films, I was always taking pictures of life growing up in India, family events when I moved to London, days out in this great city and so much more. Friends and family recognised potential, and encouraged me to further that passion and this led me to studying photography where, as you would expect, I learnt the nuts and bolts. After a stint as a medical photographer at St Marys Hospital, Paddington, I began to secure paid work covering weddings and family events, and quickly found myself booked most weekends. This firm grounding and the ability to take the perfect picture the first time round (you didn’t have the ability to just delete pictures that didn’t quite turn out right, as with digital cameras) helped me to gain a solid reputation. I have been capturing these special occasions ever since and the onset of the DSLR camera has only added to my creativity.
I have been taking photos of news stories for some time. Living in a city like London means that news is always happening. We live in exciting, sometimes turbulent times –whether it is Brexit, NHS crises, a grisly murder or the latest art installation or fashion show, there is always something going on and the general public want to know about it. Photographs allow me to tell the story – but again, it’s all about being able to capture the right image, at the right time. My photographs have been published in all the main print and online media, both in the UK and abroad.
Weddings and family events
My style of wedding photography is reportage, also referred to as documentary wedding photography – I want to tell the story of your event through naturally contemporary wedding/event photography, with splashes of the traditional in appropriate places. The ‘posing’ only happens during group shots and portraits but even there, I try to bring in some fun and innovation. The natural approach continues at the editing stage too – where I work on colour correction and cropping of images, but not airbrushing.
Specialising in Asian wedding (Indian, Hindu, Gujarati, Muslim, Bengali, Sikh, Bengali, Sri Lankan, Tamil) photography, I also cover wedding photography for other faiths – such as, English, Christian, Nigerian, Somali, Mauritian, Chinese, Greek, Trukish, Jewish, Afro Caribbean. I also cover multi-cultural weddings and use my photographs to bring the two cultures together. I am based in North London and am happy to travel – from North to South London, East to West London, Slough, Surrey, Hampshire, Reading, Berkshire, Kent, Oxford, Buckinghamshire, Middlesex, Hertfordshire, Birmingham, Leicester, Northampton, Coventry, Manchester, the rest of the UK and across Europe. I take commissions for destination weddings and civil partnership wedding photography, and cover other events such as family photo-shoots, birthdays, baby showers and engagements, and I’m available for corporate events.
