The Indian engagement ceremony is equally as auspicious, colourful and fun as Indian weddings.
When I arrived at Sattavis Patidar Centre in North West London for Kinal and Ash’s engagement ceremony, the final touches were been made to the hall decoration which was being transformed by Wed In Style into a traditional village setting in Gujarat, a state in North West India.
While the guest were arriving, I had the opportunity to photograph Kinal in the bridal room. The dim lighting in the room provided me with perfect backdrop to the serene-look photographs that I wanted to capture of Kinal.
The guest tooks their seats and the proud parents made their entrance, bringing Ash along with them. Then came the traditional Chandlo Matli – carried by Kinal’s brothers, bringing the auspicious items to Ash. Kinal’s dad then applied the chandlo on Ash’s forehead and gave him blessings.
Kinal then made her entrance with her brother, along the stunning balcony overlooking the hall which provides the setting for yet more interesting photography. After some further ceremonies, it was time for Ash to put the engagement ring on Kinal’s finger.
I was also able to capture some creative portraits of Kinal and Ash within the venue. They both looked amazing, as you can see from photographs below, and were great in front of the camera.
