Last year, Akash asked for Bijal’s hand in marriage at the Piazza San Marco in Venice. This beautiful proposal took place after months of secret planning and it was no surprise that the couple wanted to go back to this most romantic of cities for their civil wedding. Last month, I had the privilege of travelling with them to photograph this special ceremony. Arriving in Venice the day before their wedding, and with glorious, sunny weather, we had time to explore this majestic city, enjoying a ride along the Grand Canal, passing through the magnificent Rialto Bridge and the taking in the palazzi.
Bijal and Akash’s siblings joined them for their wedding day and there was also a surprise visit by Bijal’s aunt, uncle and niece, which made her day! The civil ceremony took place inside Palazzo Cavalli, a 16th century Venetian palace which is of the most famous wedding halls in Italy.
After a short Italian ceremony, the couple tied the knot, exchanging the rings and were the proudest couple around! They then stepped out onto the balcony for a couple of portraits, overlooking the Grand Canal before heading to St Marks Square for a celebratory lunch. After, it was time to chill out and the musicians even played a romantic wedding song.
It is no surprise that so many couples choose Venice for their weddings and proposals. The city is a timelessly beautiful place to celebrate these special occasions. The photographs below tell the story of this romantic destination wedding.
