Holi, a Hindu festival, is an annual celebration that heralds the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over evil, marked by throwing, smearing, playing with and generally having fun with lots of power colours. Holi got its name as the “Festival of Colour” from Lord Krishna, a reincarnation of Lord Vishnu, who liked to play pranks on the village girls by drenching them in water and powder colours.
For the last couple of year’s, I have wanted to do a pre-wedding shoot with couples on the theme of Holi, and the opportunity came up when Bijal and Akash asked me to do a Holi shoot for them last weekend! The date was fixed, the powder colours arrived from India, the location was picked in East London and the only concern was the London weather, which over the last few months has been very wet. But when the day arrived, the gods were smiling on us and we were blessed with a warm, sunny day with a cloudless blue sky.
Bijal and Akash were suitably dressed in white, and made you think to yourself, “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” (A Match Made by God). It was a crazy hour of them throwing handfuls of colourful Holi powder at each other, getting drenched with coloured water and enjoying themselves. They were also joined by their respective siblings and it really was a day to remember for all of us. It was one of the most enjoyable pre-wedding photography experiences I have had and below are some of the images of this fabulous Holi pre wedding shoot. Enjoy!
