I had the pleasure of being Ridhima and Mihir’s Asian wedding photographer over the summer, and covered their engagement and garba in East London, mehendi (henna) party in North London, civil wedding at Forty Hall in Enfiled, and Indian wedding at Oshwal Centre in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire.
Here are a selection of photographs from their mehendi ceremony, which is an important and traditional pre-wedding ritual. Usually, a henna artist or a relative applies an intricate mehendi design to the bride’s hands and feet. Sometimes hidden within the mehendi pattern are the name or initials of the groom. The event generally has a celebratory, festival feel to it with dancing and singing traditional songs and guests wearing brightly colored attire. Ridhima’s mehendi ceremony was equally as fun, with the house being lit up by some of the most beautiful mauve-themed decorations that I have seen this year.I hope you enjoy these beautiful photos.
