I have been lucky enough to photograph all of Ekta and Neeraj’s Indian wedding events this year, from their Hindu engagement in Norwich, to photographing their civil wedding at Brent Town Hall. Ekta’s mehndi ceremony was at their home a few days before the Hindu wedding at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.
Traditionally mehendi, or henna, is applied to the bride’s hands and feet, the designs are very intricate. Often hidden within the mehendi pattern are the name or initials of the groom. The ceremony generally has a celebratory festival feel to it with women dancing and singing traditional songs and everyone wearing vivid colors. Ekta’s mendhi ceremony was no different, and I was able to photograph some really colourful shots to tell the story of this wonderful occasion. Look out for more posts to continue the story of Ekta’s pre-wedding vidhi and the actual Hindu wedding itself.
