International Women’s Day, Mothers’ Day, Wedding Day – Why do I love this photograph?

Over the last few days, we have celebrated International Women’s Day and Mothers’ Day. The first of these celebrations is about respect, appreciation and love towards women and acknowledging their achievements. The second is a more personal appreciation of the person who gave you the greatest gift – that of life. Our mothers are very special for us in so many ways. During an Indian wedding, one of the most poignant parts of the ceremony, where the mother-daughter relationship comes to the forefront is the ‘vidaai’. This is when the bride says her final goodbye to her mother as she leaves for her husband’s house. The picture of the week this week is from the vidaai of a bride whose wedding we photographed last year in Navnat Centre, Hayes West London. It’s one of those photographs that you can stare at for a while as you contemplate what is going through the minds of the bride and her mother as this emotional moment that they will remember forever.
