As a London based Asian wedding photographer, I had a pleasant drive to Northampton and arrived at the Marriot Hotel in Northampton to meet the bride’s friends and family. I started off by taking some fun photographs of Fatima getting ready surrounded by family and friends, and everyone was up for getting some great shots.
Not long after, the groom’s side (baraat) arrived with the groom Abdullah, and the exchanging of wedding vows and rings took place. A Muslim wedding ceremony is referred to as Nikaah. It is a beautiful agreement between the bride and the groom to spend the rest of their lives together happily. A typical Muslim marriage is characterised by much colour and joviality. Men and women dressed in their traditional apparel gather together to celebrate the wedding with much zeal and enthusiasm, and this was certainly true of this wedding.
After the wedding breakfast, there was more fun – “the stealing of Abdullah’s shoes”. But all too soon, it was time for the farewell which was very emotional as Fatima said goodbyes to her family and friends.
I would like this opportunity to thank the Fatima, Abdullah, their families and friends for their warm welcome to me as photographer for their Muslim wedding. I’m very proud to showcase a few images from the special day.
