This week’s “Why do I Love this Photograph?” was taken at an Indian Wedding in Copthorne Effingham Park Hotel near Gatwick. It was included in a recent blog I wrote about Akta and Bhavesh’s Asian wedding and reception photography at Copthorne Effingham Park Hotel, one of my favourite wedding venues in Surrey.
I started the wedding day by photographing the wedding decorations by Wed In Style, who are based in North London, South London, Leicester and Surrey. I was then given the nod to go and take photographs of Akta’s bridal makeup. As I entered the bridal suite, this was the scene before me and I took this photograph while keeping the door half open. In the photograph, makeup artist Gini Bhogal, is putting finishes touches to Akta’s make-up and arranging her beautiful wedding outfit. Akta’s friend looks on in awe at how beautiful she looks and is about to take her very own shot of the bride. The soft light coming through the bridal suite window from the overcast skies makes this picture as it is. There was no additional lighting used to capture this photograph. I just saw this scene and fired off a couple of frames before moving inside the room to take more photographs. Apart from converting this image into black and white there is no other editing. This photograph epitomises documentary wedding photography – capturing a moment in time in a candid and unobtrusive manner.
